Press freedom is a cornerstone of democracy, it complements a transparent government and public awareness. The constitution guarantees the right to free speech under article 19 (1)(a). The article 19(1)(a) emphasizes on the right to freedom and expression . The citizens of India have the right to express thoughts, opinions and ideas through words, writing , pictures and other forms of media. Ironically the right to speech also includes the `right to not speak. Citizens also have the freedom to for associations, unions. Our constitution grants freedom of speech to every individual but unfortunately the essence gets lost in this chaotic unjust system.  The press faces faces many challenges , like  Political pressure - Governments impose legal restrictions , censorship or defamation laws to supress unfavorable reporting.
